Kairo Garvin Logan McLean was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 15, 2008. His father, Garvin is a born Jamaican and his mother, Kim is Canadian of Jamaican descent. By the time Kairo was 3, he was already playing the drums (or trying to play to the best of a 3 year old’s ability), and was playing the guitar at 6.
“To call this child natural would be an understatement” – Reggaeville”
Kairo is a true connoisseur of the genre and is deeply familiar with all aspects of reggae, rocksteady, sound-system culture. He has learned the most tedious of details that only a seasoned scholar of reggae would know.
When it comes to his own compositions, Kairo is as old-school as it gets, drawing influences from Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott and Peter Tosh. This young artist knows the tradition, studied the history, and has developed his own style and unique flare.
His debut EP called ‘Easy Now’ released April 16th, 2022 and its title track got nominated for and won a Juno. Kairo McLean became the youngest person ever to win the Juno award.
His most notable performances are Harbourfront, singing fest, Jerkfest, and Junofest 2022 alongside Kirk diamond.
